Boutique Bliss in Amsterdam
When I start planning a trip, I'm always on the hunt for the most luxurious hotel I can find at the most reasonable price. There's no corporate credit card booking our hotels, so we can't be at 5 star getaways every night we travel. That means I have to do a lot of work to find us somewhere affordable and cool. It's quite a process looking up reviews, checking out neighborhoods, and cross-referencing with TripAdvisor before I finally come to a decision. When I stumbled upon the 4-star Sir Albert in Amsterdam's trendy de Pijp neighborhood (where I planned to do most of my exploring) I knew I had struck gold.
A short walk to the Vondelpark, Van Gogh Museum, Rijks, and even Heineken experience, this location is perfectly for anyone wanting to visit Amsterdam. Another perk - it was a 17 minute and 22 euro ride from the airport.
Upon entering the hotel you feel like you've walked into the foyer of the apartment of a refined world-traveler. Stone washed floors, vivid Persian rugs, modern, sleek furniture, a glass fireplace, a wall of books, and a collection of interesting objects adorning the walls and ceilings. This is a true design hotel meant to make you feel like you're staying in a home.
The hotel is housed in a former diamond factory. The building has high ceilings and large windows that enable lots of natural light to flow. The reception area is cozy and adorned with the things someone like Sir Albert brings back from his many travels around the world. The reception staff is kind and welcoming, offering you a complimentary glass of bubbles on arrival and helping you arrange whatever reservations, tickets, and bookings you require for your stay.
Our chic, standard-size room was on the spacious side for European hotels. A note from Sir Albert, stuck to the bathroom mirror warned us that the bed was the most comfortable we'd ever sleep in - and he wasn't fibbing. It's a squishy, fluffy, cloud of a bed with high-thread count sheets and a down duvet. Only the allure of a giant panneokoken got me out of that bed. There were also Dead Clean amenities, an Illy espresso machine, and all the modern technology you may require. Did I mention WIFI is free and lightening fast?
I've never been so pleased with a budget boutique find as I was with the Sir Albert. I look forward to staying with him again and again and highly recommend you do as well.
